Doctors' Day: A glimpse into the heart of healing with trauma surgeon Dr. Reginald Jones
Doctors’ Day is approaching on Saturday, March 30, which is a beloved annual opportunity to recognize our outstanding doctors at California Hospital Medical Center. Our doctors are not just healers — they are also striving to shape a more compassionate future in health care.
More than 490 physicians provide life-saving care at California Hospital Medical Center. Take a glimpse behind the scenes to learn about one of our physicians, Reginald Jones, MD, Trauma Surgeon and Chair of the Department of Surgery, who was born at California Hospital:
A conversation with Reginald Jones, MD
- Q: Why did you become a trauma surgeon?
A: Surgery picked me. I was a trauma patient myself and had friends who were trauma patients, so I went into this field to save lives. I have been a surgeon for 22 years thanks to the support of my family.
- Q:How many people have you treated?
A: Hundreds upon hundreds. And you never can predict the impact you’ll have. A former classmate recently told me that I saved his cousin’s life many years ago, when she was shot in the heart. Decades later, they still recognized me.
- Q:How can gifts impact California Hospital?
A:We’re opening a new patient tower and expanding the Leavey Trauma Center later this year. When we make improvements like that, we can serve patients better — which means we’re doing more good in the community. And that is always rewarding.
Our doctors always go above and beyond, motivated by a genuine desire to make a difference for our community. And that makes this Doctors’ Day the perfect time to say thank you with a gift.
Philanthropy helps doctors like Dr. Jones continue serving patients with innovative care, and it advances health equity for all in our community. From changing trajectories of children and families at Hope Street Margolis Family Center — to providing patients experiencing homelessness with community-based case management and housing navigation services — your gift truly provides holistic, life-changing care.
Make a gift in honor of our doctors
